"An artwork is, in the first place, a thing made of materials. It may become a material being, an expression, only when material becomes one with an idea. When that happens, an artwork will convince and acquire a quality that allows it to rise above its pure material existence.
I think this is not just a matter of craftsmanship. My work evolves while exploring ideas and materials simultaneously. Ideas develop in tandem with process until everything “feels right.” In this explorative way, I developed a paint application process using glass plates to apply layers of paint onto paper and canvas. Pressing paint on in this manner emulates an artful embrace, and what is left behind from this exercise are lifelike forms and shapes. Here lovemaking and life making are related by way of process. The Hothouse series of mono prints, with some lush and lyrical, and other more sensual and earthy, make reference to the environment of a hothouse, where love and life thrive with moist fervor.
Entranced by the endless possibilities of paint, I continue to re-invent my work process, developing ever new and unique ways to express evolving ideas concerning art and the art making process, which have come to form the essence of my work."
