"LOW TIDE HIGH"
new paintings on canvas
Winsor Gallery, Vancouver
May 12 - Jun 5, 2005

The Winsor Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Claudia Bos. ‘LOW TIDE HIGH’ is an ambitious exploration of the Inter-tidal Zone of the West Coast. Bos translates the sensory ‘high’ experienced on British Columbia’s beaches into an explosive abstraction of intense colour and texture. The works are unabashedly optimistic – and vibrate with their own sensuous rush.

The ‘LOW TIDE HIGH’ paintings present an extensive investigation of intricate geometries, – Bos’ long-standing passion. She has pushed her signature technique of direct glass-plate printing using heavy impastos of paint to a new level of sophistication. At a distance, multiple layers of composite patterns, rich hues and textures fuse to create pulsating visual fields. Close-up, the countless surface complexities require slower-paced consideration. The resulting ebb and flow experience of these works mimics their source – the ever modulating impact of tides. And, like a newly reformed coastline, Bos’ abstractions, while nearing sensory overload, capture a fine mathematical balance of natural beauty.
